Robert E. Bender, 72, Jamestown, North Dakota died Saturday, April 23, 2011 at MedCenter One in Bismarck, ND.
Robert was born July 31, 1938 in Washburn, ND, the son of Edwin and Leontina (Weisz) Bender. He received his education in Washburn and graduated from Washburn High School in 1956. He entered the US Army on February 13, 1963 and was stationed in Germany while serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on January 30, 1965 and returned to North Dakota. On August 6, 1966 Robert married the love of his life, Minon \"Kitty\" Rettig in Jamestown. Robert co-owned and operated Mutual Vending, which later became Midwest Amusement for over 40 years.
Robert was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, the Jamestown Bowling Association, Classic Car Club, Eagles, Elks and V.F.W., all of Jamestown. He enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren and especially watching his grandchildren in their sporting activities. His hobbies included camping, boating, hunting, bowling, barbecuing and traveling in their motorhome. He was inducted in the ND Bowling Hall of Fame on March 2, 1998.
Robert is survived by his wife, Minon, Jamestown; three daughters, Cammy (Steve) Ost, Adrian, ND, Debbie (Joel) Rostberg, Bismarck, ND, Cathy (Larry) Nannenga, Jamestown; one son, Kevin O\'Neil, Grand Rapids, MI; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; his mother, Leontina Bender, Bismarck; two sisters, Beverly Anderson, Bismarck and Darlene (Jim) Rezmer, Pingree, ND; and three brothers, David Bender, Denver, CO, Rodney (Diane) Bender and Jack Bender, both of Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by his father.
