- [S927] Obituary.
David Harold Bender passed away at his home in Thornton, Colo., on Dec. 28, 2015. He was born in Bismarck on Feb. 16, 1946, the son of Edwin and Leontina (Weisz) Bender of Washburn. He attended Washburn Elementary School until the family relocated to Bismarck in 1959. He received the rite of confirmation at First Lutheran Church in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1964. He enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard on Dec. 22, 1965, and was honorably discharged on Dec. 21, 1971.
Dave enjoyed a very successful long haul trucking career, starting in Bismarck and later transferring to Denver. He knew by memory the highway numbers to any destination in the contiguous 48 states.
He was passionate about his Denver Broncos and his Harley Davidson motorcycles, sometimes owning more than one. In retirement he spent many enjoyable days touring his beloved Colorado and the Dakotas. Those of us who knew him best fondly recall how much he delighted in a good meal, especially if it included mashed potatoes and corn. His favorite breakfast since childhood was Cheerios.
Mourning his passing are his siblings, Bev Anderson and Rod (Diane) Bender, both of Bismarck, Dar Rezmer and Minon Bender, Jamestown, and Jack Bender, Arizona; four stepsons, August Feist (Jerilynn Klein), Bismarck, David (Stacy) Feist, Jerome Feist and Thomas Feist, all of Colorado; five step-grandchildren and one young man who was very special to him, Kaleb Klein, Bismarck; one aunt-in-law, Jane Weisz, Roseburg, Ore.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Dave in death were his parents; one brother, Robert Bender; his grandparents; and all of his aunts and uncles.
Dave, you took a part of each of us with you. We love you and will hold you in our hearts forever. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at a later date at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Condolences may be directed to Bev Anderson, 519 W. Interstate Ave., Bismarck, N.D. 58503.
