Carl W. Shoudel Sr.

U.S. VeteranCarl W. Shoudel Sr., age 93 of Fort Wayne passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Bethlehem Woods in Fort Wayne. He was born November 4, 1920 in Garrett to Charles T. and Cora G. (Mansfield) Shoudel and they preceded him in death. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant and was a Purple Heart with Oakleaf recipient. He was a member of the Garrett American Legion Post 178 and VFW, Disabled American Veterans, Assoc. of 6th Infantry Div., Retired Enlisted Assoc. and National Order of Trench Rats.
He is survived by a son, Carl W. Shoudel Jr., step daughter, Helen Joann Brown of Woodburn; friend and companion, Vicky Whisenant of Fort Wayne; brother, Charles E. Shoudel of Garrett; sisters, Mary Lou DeWitt of Garrett and Martha Jane Anderson of Waynedale; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Shoudel and a sister, Ladonna Shoudel.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4, from 2-4 and 6-7 p.m. with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. with Fr. Derrick Sneyd officiating at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
Memorials are to the Garrett American Legion.
