Herman Jacob Stierheim was born to John and Minnie { Rotter} Stierheim on the 27th of July 1914 in Richville, Denmark twp, Michigan. Herman enlisted in the Army on the 21 of Feb. 1941. He was in the 59 th Coast Artillery Corps. He was a mine planter. He was stationed on Corrigador and was captured . He was in the Batan Death March. Herman became a POW , He was sent to Camp Hoten in Mukden in Manchuria, China. Herman was there for 3 1/2 years before being rescued by the Russians. Herman enjoyed his family and loved country music. He later died in the Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor , Michigan. He died the 23rd of May 1967. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Vassar, Michigan.
