Victor Goehring, of Lodi passed away peacefully in his home on January 20, 2014, at the age of 87 after a brief illness. He was born in Lodi on April 7, 1926, to P.J. and Christina Goehring. He graduated from Lodi High School in 1944 and immediately joined the US Army serving in the 7th Infantry Division. He served his country in the battle of Okinawa as a rifleman and radioman. Upon completion of his service he was honorably discharged from the Army and went on to earn a bachelors degree and a law degree from Stanford University. Victor was admitted to the California State Bar Association in 1954 and opened a law office in Lodi in 1955 where he practiced for over 50 years. He was admitted and qualified as an Attorney and Counselor of the Supreme Court of the United States in 1994.
His passions were traveling the world, Stanford football and his vineyard which he has owned since 1972.
He was a member of three bands in his lifetime including the Lodi High School Band, US Army 7th Infantry Division Band and Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band.
He was a founding member of the San Joaquin Delta College Board of Trustees, served as a Board Member and family partner of Goehring Meat Company Inc, a member of Local Board 32, Selective Service System, as well as a member of SIRS, The Mexican-American Lions Club, and Germans from Russia Society.
In 1971, Victor ran for US Congress in what was then the 15th district.
He is survived by his children, Laura Taylor (Richard), Margaret Tate, John Goehring (Lisa), David Goehring, and companion Beverlee Knight. He is survived by seven grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Levi, Harold and Clifford.
He is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Emma Goehring and Elsie Abeldt and his brothers Reuben, Elmer and Benjamin.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 24th at 11:00 AM at Vinewood Community Church at 1900 West Vine Street in Lodi 95242. A reception will immediately follow the service at Pasos Vineyard Winery in the Vino Piazza Wine Village in Lockeford. Inurnment will be private.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to, Vinewood Community Church.
