Viola E. Baumeister, 89, of Monroe died at 10:45 a.m. Friday at TenderCare of Monroe. She had been in declining health.Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Allore Chapel of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, Monroe, where a rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Tuesday. She will lie in state from 10 a.m. until services at 11 Wednesday at St. Anne Catholic Church. The Rev. Robert Mossett, OSFS, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.Born Aug. 30, 1916, in Monroe, she was the daughter of Darwin E. and Margaret E. (Weatherholt) Johnson. She married Edward Baumeister on Sept. 13, 1941, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Carleton. He died April 6, 1995.A homemaker, she was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and its Altar Society, Monroe Senior Citizens Center and the Golden Lioness Club. She enjoyed baking.Surviving are two sons, Daniel (Anna) of Ottawa Lake and Carl (Kathryn) of Spring Hill, Fla.; two daughters, Elizabeth Pattie of Monroe and Anne (James) Timbs of Dearborn; a son-in-law, Rodge Armstrong of Ida; a brother, Darwin of Coopersville; four sisters, Loretta Baczor of Dearborn Heights and Ethel Jackson, Verna VanStone and Dorothy Johnson, all of Carleton; 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Aletha Armstrong on Nov. 29, 2000; four brothers, Alvin, Charles, Raymond and Alfred; two sisters, Lila Barron and Martha Johnson, and a grandson, Christopher Baumeister on Jan. 3, 2000.Memorials may be made to Hospice of Monroe.
