Bio: Edward J. Fleck, 75, Maple Grove, Minn., formerly of Mandan, died Aug. 3, 2015, at his residence in Minnesota. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Christopher Kadrmas as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by the Mandan VFW Post No. 707 and American Legion Post No. 40.Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, with a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.Ed was born on March 9, 1940, to Joseph and Minnie (Schmidt) Fleck in Solen. He was raised and educated in the Solen area. In 1958, he moved to Mandan and served in the National Guard. Ed returned to North Dakota and worked construction on missile sites in North and South Dakota. He also gold mined in South Dakota before returning to North Dakota. He married Marlene Berger on June 4, 1962, in Fallon. They moved to Deadwood, S.D., before moving to Minnesota in 1967. He worked for Garlock Roofing and worked his way up to vice president of operations. After his retirement from Garlock Roofing, he found his true passion by becoming a self-employed handyman.Ed appreciated nature; he loved to garden and fish. He was a Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan and enjoyed following these teams. He liked puzzles and board games and dancing the polka and waltz. Ed was a true American he was very patriotic and taught his children the true meaning of being an American. His family was important to him and he loved his children and grandchildren.Ed will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Marlene, Maple Grove, Minn.; Rhonda (Steve) Jennings, Eden Prairie, Minn., and Robyn (Jonathan) Olsen, Maple Grove, Minn.; his sons, Daniel, Montecello, Minn., and David, Maple Grove, Minn.; three grandchildren, Nigel, Jordan and Jaden; his sisters, Marlene (Ken) Brilz, San Pablo, Calif., Rose (Jack) Schutt, Beulah, Ilene (Bob) Meyer, Lincoln, Sally (Wayne) Geiss, Hawley, Minn., Kathleen (Don) Erhardt, Mandan, Veronica (Dennis) Erhardt, Mandan, and Betty (Bob) Thompson, Mandan; his brothers, Clarence (Adeline), Mandan, Alphonse (Maggie), Mandan, and Mike (Nancy), Flasher; along with numerous nieces and nephews.Ed was preceded in death by his parents.In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.Go to www.weigelfuneral.com to sign the online guest book and view tribute photos.
