Jerome Fleck, 71, died Aug. 29, 2008, at his home in rural Flasher. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Chad Gion as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m., followed by a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Jerome was born at the family farm, to Anton and Monica (Berger) Fleck Feb. 8, 1937. He grew up on the farm near Fallon. He was educated at St. Peter and Paul School in Fallon. As a young adult, he worked on the Pierre Dam, missile sights in Grand Forks, construction of the Stanton power plant and turn around for Mandan Refinery. In 1966, he and his brother, Val, took over the family farm, which they continued for the past 40 years. Jerome's love for the land and all it produced, included all aspects of farming and was central to his life. Jerome looked forward to the family gatherings, weddings, birthdays and trips to Prairie Knights. He will be remembered and missed by his family and friends for all his hard work, gentle nature, great spirited heart and his courageous fight against cancer.
Leaving with fond memories, his sisters, Hildegarde (Martin) Morrell, Lenora (Leonard) Haider and Bernadette Schlinger, all of Mandan, and Clara (Melvin) Beckler, Hazen; brothers, Tony Fleck, Elgin, Val (Doris) Fleck, Flasher, Richard Fleck, Bismarck, and Melvin (Shirley) and Leonard (Karen), all of Mandan; sister-in-law, Cecelia (Jerome) Geiger, Mandan; numerous nieces and nephews; and favorite dog, Tanner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lucas, Casper and Alphonse; sister, Adeline Vogel; sister-in law, Maggie Fleck; and brother-in-law, Harold Schlinger.
