LOUIS G. BLOMEKE, 55, R1 Waterloo, was killed Tuesday afternoon, February 24, when he was pinned underneath a tractor he was using to manipulate some discarded telephone poles. The tractor apparently failed to navigate the side of a ditch and rolled over on him. The body was discovered by a neighbor, LaVon M. Bender at 2:20pm. Police and EMS units rushed to the scene but Blomeke was dead before they arrived. County Coroner Dr. John Harvey said he believed Blomeke died about 1:00pm.
Mr. Blomeke was born on April 26, 1920 to Frank and Irene Blomede. His mother survives him and lives on R1 in Waterloo. He was married to Marie Magdelen Ellert on June 26, 1946 at the St. Michael's Church in Waterloo. The Blomekes lived on their farm on County Road 10 for the past 19 years and for the last seven years Mr. Blomeke was a machine repairman at Warner Gear.
Mr. Blomeke belonged to the St. Michael's Church in Waterloo, and was a veteran of WWII and a member of the VFW in Waterloo. He was also a member of the Butler American Legion and the Garrett Eagles.
Surviving Mr. Blomeke are his mother, Irene, and his wife Marie. Also surviving are his sons Steven, Aberdene SD, David 914 Stony Drive Auburn, Charles Berne, Patrick 206 East First Street Auburn, and Jerry at home. Daughters surviving are Linda Clifton R2 Angola, and Sharon and Denise both at home.
Three brothers survive Mr Blomeke. They are: Paul, Huntington; Bernard, R1 Auburn; and Edwin, Garrett. One sister survives, Mrs. Mildred Lepley, Ashley. Blomeke had four grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Blomeke will be held at 10:30am Friday at St. Michael's Church in Waterloo. Father Matthew Lange officiating. Burial was in the St. Michael's Cemetery.
