Ellatina Rohrbach Kenitzer

Aberdeen: Mass of Christian Burial for Ellatina R. Kenitzer, 75, Aberdeen, is 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Ave. SE. Burial following at Riverside Cemetery, Father Ed Pierce officiating. Liturgical wake is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave. NW. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary and one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Thursday. Ella died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Aberdeen Health & Rehab, on her 75th birthday. Ellatina Rohrbach was born Jan. 3, 1934, to Wilhelm and Magdalena (Shaffer) Rohrbach in rural Leola, S.D. She attended country school in Leola, S.D. After completing school she moved to Aberdeen to work. On March 1, 1954, Ella married LeRoy Henry Kenitzer in Aberdeen, S.D. Together they made their home in Aberdeen until 1959. They then moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., for several years. In 1963 they moved back to Aberdeen. Ella worked for a few cafes while they raised their 10 children. In 1992 LeRoy retired and they moved to Leola, S.D. Ella worked part-time at the local cafe. Ella enjoyed baking and cooking, for a short time she made wedding cakes and cookies in her home for family and friends. Through the years she enjoyed entertaining her family for the holidays and teaching her family to do the same. She made homemade kuchen that her family loved. She also enjoyed socializing with family and friends. Ella returned to Aberdeen after her husband's death in 1998. Ella worked as a foster Grandmother for the children at New Beginnings Center and also cooked for the children until she became ill in 2007. The children loved Ella. Ella also loved gardening and working in her yard. She enjoyed her life with her family and especially enjoyed being with her 16 grandchildren. Ella's faith was also very important to her. Grateful for having shared Ella's life are her 10 children and their families, Sheila Marie (Lee ?Tink?) Sullivan, Hecla, S.D., Michael Roy Kenitzer, Julie Ella (Frank) Burckhard, Joyce Ann Kenitzer, all of Aberdeen, S.D., Theresa Kay (Jeff) Roggie, Belle Fourche, S.D., Vincent Henry (Louise) Kenitzer, Christopher William Kenitzer, both of Aberdeen, S.D., Susan Jean Morgan & Rodney Bren, Watertown, S.D., Donald Lee (Chinyong) Kenitzer, Evans Mills, N.Y., Barbara Magdalena (Jeff) Wacholz, Aberdeen, S.D.; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene (Hank) Botkin, Medford, Ore., Shirley Thorn, Ashley, N.D.; six brothers, Ruben Rohrbach, Paradise, Calif., Art Rohrbach, San Diego, Calif., Gary (Barbara) Rohrbach, Eureka, Calif., Gerald Rohrbach, Ipswich, S.D., Wilbert (Jenny) Rohrbach, Ellendale, N.D., Eugene Rohrbach, Oriska, N.D.; and her best friend, Liz (JJ) Jones, Graham, Wash. She is preceded in death by her parents, mother and father in-law, husband, three sisters, eight brothers, one brother-in-law, one grandson, Dustin Wacholz, and one son-in-law, James Morgan.
