Gottfried Dewald, 85, Streeter, N.D., died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at SCCI Hospital, Mandan, N.D.
Mr. Dewald was born Dec. 20, 1923, on the family farm northwest of Streeter, the son of Peter and Albina (Dorr) Dewald. He grew up and attended school in Streeter and worked on the family farm. He married Martha Ebel on Feb. 9, 1951, at Medina, N.D. They lived on a farm north of Streeter where he farmed until he retired in 1992. He was a member of Hope United Church of Christ, Streeter, where he served on the church board. He also served the rural fire department.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Steven (Kathleen), Waterbury, Conn., and Mark (Pamela), Allen, Texas; two brothers, Otto (Lea) and Bennie, both Streeter; three sisters, Irene Giebnger, Sacramento, Calif., Pauline Landowski, St. Cloud, Minn., and Evangeline (Mike) Nenow, Jamestown; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Dewald, Jamestown, and June Dewald, Streeter; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ephriam, Philip, Alfred and Verner; and two sisters, Otillia and Leona.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Hope United Church of Christ, Streeter, with the Rev. Chris Hogstad officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Saturday, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel.
Burial: Streeter Cemetery, Streeter.
