The funeral for Ludwig Sayler, Bismarck, formerly of Wishek, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Burial will be at the St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek.
Ludwig Sayler, son of Edward and Christina (Weisser) Sayler, was born Dec. 8, 1922, on the family farm 16 miles southwest of Wishek. At a young age Ludwig worked as a farm laborer on various farms. In March of 1944 he moved to his own farm 10 miles west of Wishek. The same year in October he was inducted in the United States Army and entered the Army Air force. Ludwig was promoted to Corporal and served two years. During that time, he was stationed on a ship and witnessed the surrender of Japan. After his discharge he went back to farming. Ludwig married Irene Just, daughter of Christof and Emma Thurn, on Jan. 20, 1949, at Wishek. They moved to Wishek in 1974 where Ludwig did some wood working and carpentry and later was the caretaker of the Wishek Park. Ludwig and Irene moved to Bismarck in 2009. Ludwig was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and the Wishek American Legion
Ludwig died June 15, 2011, at his home at Bismarck. He was 88 years old.
Ludwig is survived by his wife Irene, Bismarck; two children, Steve (Karen) Sayler, Wishek, and Peggy (Gerald) Weigel, Bismarck; six grandchildren, Lance (Tammy) Sayler, Sydney and Brooklyn, East Grand Forks, Minn., Liza Jo and special friend, Robert, Placerville, Calif., Lacey and special friend, Preston, Derby, Kan., Cathy (Michael) Trahan; eight great-grandchildren, Mason, Conner and Mylie, Jolaine (Mike) Ibach, Matthew and Ethan, Scott (Kayla) Weigel, and Kai, all of Bismarck; five brothers, Reinhold (Ella-Mae) Sayler, Bismarck, Victor (Deanne) Sayler, Minneapolis, and Daniel (Marlys) Sayler, Herman (Alvina) Sayler, Albert (Betty) Sayler, all of Wishek; five sisters, Eva Just, Edna Wiest, Landina (Wilbert) Meidinger, and Arlen (Leo) Hauck, all of Wishek, and Christine (Dennis) Witt, Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Christina; three brothers, John, Jacob and Edward; two sisters, Irene Just and Clara Thurn; and three brothers-in-law, Fred Thurn, Herbert Just and Ferdinand Wiest.
