ROLLAND MERCER NEUHART 1941-2011
SENECAVILLE -- Rolland Mercer Neuhart, 69, of Senecaville, died Thursday (March 31, 2011) at his home.
He was born Oct. 27, 1941 in Calais, son of the late Frank and Hilda (Mercer) Neuhart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann (Ruby) Neuhart, whom he married Feb. 4, 1960 and who passed away Sept. 13, 2008; brothers Jerry Neuhart and Larry Neuhart; sister Donna Mae Kirk and brothers-in law Norman "Bud" Chester, David "Buzz" Kirk and John Laughman.
Mr. Neuhart was a member of the last graduating class at Senecaville High School.
He was a member of Point Pleasant Masonic Lodge and was retired from the B&O Railroad, where he worked from 1966-1983. He was also owner/operator of Neuhart's Seneca Service from 1984 -1989, and later retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation in 2002 after 13 years of service, where he served as assistant superintendent.
Rolland was an avid NASCAR fan, as well an accomplished drag race driver in the 1960s and early 1970s. He was a self-taught mechanic, auto body technician and a craftsman of woodworking. He made many beautiful and original furniture pieces that will be cherished for generations by his children, grandchildren and other family members.
He also enjoyed his gardens, and was a political activist by supporting the Democratic party.
He is survived by four children, Allan Neuhart, Jacqueline (George) Rothschuh, Dale Neuhart and Jennifer (Trevor) Black, all of Senecaville; 11 grandchildren, Darcy, Maggie and Gabby Neuhart, Janielle and Jenise Malinak, Aubrey and Elric Neuhart and Sydney, Easton, Boston and Camden Black; four great-grandchildren, Zoey, Ryan Jr., Lily and Willow; brothers, Frank Willard (Peggy) Neuhart of Cambridge, John (Sylvia) Neuhart and Harold Neuhart, all of Senecaville; sisters Jane Cramer of Florida and Karen (Bill) Saintenoy of Senecaville; sisters-in-law, Wilma (Ruby) Laughman Neuhart of New Concord, Wilda Arlene Chester of Coshocton and Lucille (Bob) Hall of Beallsville; many nephews and nieces; and special caregiver and neighbors, Tami (Bob) Bennett.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Senecaville, where services will be 11 a.m. Monday with Evangelist Mark Beros officiating.
Burial will be in Senecaville Cemetery.
