The funeral for Lawrence M. Lehr, Wishek, ND will be Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek, ND.
Lawrence Martin Lehr, son of August and Pauline (Reich) Lehr was born June 8, 1920 on the family farm near Burnstad, ND. He was baptized in the rural Jehovah Evangelical Church and confirmed at St. Luke Lutheran at Wishek, ND. Lawrence attended rural school in Morningside District and helped on the family farm. From October 1937 to April 1938 Lawrence served in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) at Remer, MN in forestry. In 1941 he was inducted into the Army at Fort Snelling, MN. Lawrence served 31/2 years in the South Pacific with the 186th Infantry in New Guinea, Papua and the Southern Philippines, taking part in the liberation of American prisoners on Leyte. Lawrence was honorably discharged June 7, 1945 at Fort Snelling, MN. Lawrence began his farming operation in Logan County. Lawrence married LaVerne Schnabel June 1, 1947 at the Burnstad Lutheran Church by Pastor Doyen. They lived in the Burnstad area until 1954 when they purchased a farm near Napoleon, where they raised grain and livestock. In 1962 they purchased the Andrew Miller farmstead near Wishek, raising grain, hay and livestock. Lawrence was employed by Sayler Implement Co. from 1978 to 1987 doing machinery maintenance until retiring in 1987. Lawrence enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and restoring tractors and stationary engines. Lawrence and LaVerne moved into Wishek in 1996. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.
Lawrence died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Wishek Living Center, Wishek, ND. He was 92 years old.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, LaVerne, Wishek, ND; one daughter, Constance Nies, Bismarck, ND; two sons, Jeffrey Lehr, Huron, SD and Jerome (Vernell) Lehr, Fargo, ND; 4 grandchildren, Christopher (Carrie) Lehr, Sheila (Troy) Helland, Dawn DeTraz and Brent (Margaret) Nies; 12 great-grandchildren, Elyse, Olivia, Lilyenne, Logan Helland, Samuel and Anna Lehr, Andrew Johnson, William, Ryan, Natasha, Angel and Sierra; 3 great-great grandchildren, Greyson, Silas and Izzy; one sister, Vera Shelton, Missoula, MT; three brothers, Marvin (Frances) Lehr, Ashley, ND, LeRoy (Veronica) Lehr, Albuquerque, NM and EuGene Lehr, Bismarck, ND; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lehr, Truman, MN and Edith Lehr, Wishek, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Elmer and Ivan, two sisters, Viola Schweitz and Hilda Gallagher; two brothers-in-law, Albert Schweitz and Delmar Gallagher.
