Sioux Falls, SD ? Joyce V. (Olson) Meyer, 80, 730 Parkway, Hudson SD, died Saturday January 5, 2008 at Hudson Health Care Home. Joyce V. Olson was born May 2, 1927 at Holabird, South Dakota. Her parents were Katie Strohbehn Olson and Henry Olson. She attended rural schools through the 8th grade. Joyce married Erwin ?Bud? Meyer on September 14, 1947 at Redfield South Dakota. Bud and Joyce worked in the road construction industry for a number of years before moving to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. During her years in Sioux Falls, Joyce was extensively involved with Child Evangelism Fellowship where she worked with children, teaching them the way of salvation. Joyce was also a dedicated homemaker, raising 4 children who included Gary, Allen, Richard, and Sherry along with various dogs, cats and parakeets. Joyce and Bud moved to Scotland, South Dakota in 1969 and were owners of Scotland School Busses which was later re-named B-J School Buses. Joyce was involved with various churches in the Scotland and Yankton area while living in Scotland. Joyce continued to be active with CEF and also worked with teenage girls developing a training class to help them mature as Christian girls. After her husband died in 2000, she lived at the assisted living facility in Colton, South Dakota and the Hudson Health Care Facility in Hudson, South Dakota until her death on January 5, 2008. Joyce will always be remembered for her desire for her family and others to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus. She is now rejoicing in heaven where she is re-united with Bud.
Joyce is survived by her 4 children: Gary and wife Barb Meyer of Crooks, South Dakota, Allen and wife Diane Meyer of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rick and wife Diane Meyer of Scotland, South Dakota, and Sherry and husband George Scott of Gilbert, Arizona, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, brother Marvin Olson of Redfield, South Dakota, two sisters, Elzora Hamlin of Sioux Falls, and Geraldine Richards of Summerfield, Florida.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Alvin Olson and three sisters, Katherine McLeish, Veda Meyer, and Opal Preston.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at George Boom Funeral Home following the funeral service in Sioux Falls.
