Hilda Hamilton Smith

A death which shocked not only Woodsfield but the entire community was that of Mrs. Hilda Smith, 35, which occurred at five o'clock aboard a train near Mansfield. Mrs. Smith and husband, Paul Smith, were en route to their home here from Phoenix, Arizona, where she had been a patient in a hospital for five months.
Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 29, 1911, the daughter of Homer L. and Mary Christman Hamilton, who survive.
Surviving besides her husband and parents are two sisters, Mrs. Opal Schwall, of near Lewisville, and Miss Elsie Hamilton of the home; seven brothers, Ray of Minneapolis, Minn., Willard of Mansfield, Pfc. Herbert Hamilton, stationed with the U. S. Army in Japan; and Eugene, Edwin, Arthur and Gerald Hamilton, of the home.
Mrs. Hamilton formerly owned and operated the Vogue Dress Shop in Woodsfield. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical and reformed Church and of the Junior Women's Guild, always being active in all activities of the church.
Funeral services which were largely attended were held at two o'clock Sunday at the Sunday at the Bauer and Turner funeral home, with Rev. Walter M. Trogler officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was gifted with a fine personality and numbered her friends by the score. Her business venture filled a definite need in Woodsfield. Its success justified her faith in it and the fact that failing health necessitated her giving it up was a matter of regret to customers. She is kindly remembered by all who knew her.
