MOTT — Nicholas J. "Nick" Reinert, 93, Mott, died peacefully at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Mott, on June 21, 2010. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday, June 25, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Mott, with the Rev. Charles Zins officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. MDT today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday morning. A rosary/vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. MDT today at the church in Mott.
Nicholas J. Reinert was born Dec. 26, 1916, in Highland Township, rural Mott, to Nicholas Reinert and Mary Parkhurst. He was the third youngest of 11 children and spent his youth on the family farm.
On Oct. 27, 1936, he married Catherine Frank and to this marriage six children were born. Nick and Catherine made their life together on the family farm northeast of Mott. Nick served as secretary of the Mott Equity Exchange, was a board member of the Farm Home Administration and was a supervisor with the Hettinger and Slope County Soil Conservation Service. In 1965, Nick was recognized with the Award Winning Farm for Hettinger and Slope counties. He served on the Water Resource Board of Bismarck and also served as chairman for the Mott Cemetery Board. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a trustee on the boards of St. Placidus and St. Vincent's Catholic Church.
Nick's life can be remembered best through his examples of farming, faith and family. He spent 62 years as a farmer on the farm homestead which was recognized as a Centennial family farm in 2008. Nick was man of deep faith and devotion. Upon retirement, he attended daily mass when possible and he and his wife, Catherine, together prayed the daily rosary.
Nick and Catherine were married for 73 years and served as an example of commitment and love for each other. Left with loving memories are his wife, Catherine, Mott; three daughters, Mildred (Nick) Wegh, Dickinson, Kathy (James) Brewster, Olympia, Wash., and Sister Agnes Reinert O.S.B., Bismarck; and three sons, Nick (Loretta), Dickinson, John (Patty) Bismarck, and Ernie (Carol) Bismarck. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 51 great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Kate Waddell, Marguerite Waddell, Mary Laches, Agnes Smart and Marlene Smart; five brothers, Walter, Raymond, William, Charles and John; and one grandchild, Richard Wegh.
