FREIDIG, RAYNARD
On Monday, February 28, 2005, of Arlington, VA. Raynard was born November 5, 1937 on a farm in Center, ND, the son of Matt Jr. and Eva (Koch) Freidig. He was raised and attended school in Center, ND. He attended college in North Dakota before being drafted into the US army. He served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962.
Ray enjoyed a distinguished career as a senior intelligence analyst with the Defense Intelligence Agency, Washington, DC from March 1963 until his death in February. His significant contributions as an authoriative expert on Asian military affairs during his 42-year government career established him as a leader in the US intelligence community.
Ray was able to enjoy travel to many places around the world. He lived for his job and the wonderful friends and colleagues he made throughout his years in government service. He loved the arts, literature, and his ballroom dancing.
He is survived by two sisters, Evangeline Himmelspach, Bismarck, ND, Marilyn Himmelspach, Kirkland, WA; one brother, Larry, Lake Stevens, WA; one goddaughter and niece, Claudia Bender, Bismarck, ND; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Thomas Himmelspach. Services will be held in Bismarck, ND.
