rs. John Meidinger, Gackle Pioneer, Dies
Mrs. John Meidinger, 73, longtime resident of Gackle community, died unexpectedly Friday at Trinity Hospital, Jamestown, where she had been a patient for two days. Death was attributed to a heart condition.
Funeral services were Tuesday in the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle with Rev. John F. Mertz, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Gackle cemetery.
Mrs. Meidinger, the former Katherina Just was born Feb. 26, 1891, near Zeeland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Just. She attended the local school and resided on the family farm southwest of Wishek until Jan. 21, 1913, when she was married to John Meidinger in a rural church north of Zeeland.
They began farming six miles south of Gackle, later moving to various farms in the Streeter-Gackle community until 1936 when they moved into Gackle where her husband was engaged in the harness and shoe repair business. Following their retirement in 1954 they continued to live in Gackle.
Surviving are her husband, three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Walter Maas, Theodore Meidinger, Mrs. Frances Letcher, Jamestown; Mrs. Arnold Letcher, Wishek; Peter Meidinger, Los Angeles, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lydia Ketterling, LaMoure; two brothers, Fred and August Just, Wishek.
Also nine half-sisters, Mrs. Rueben Brandner, Lehr; Mrs. Alvin Boschee, Mrs. Christ Brandner, Mrs. Aesop Hagle, Eureka, S.D.; Mrs. George Bolan, International Falls, Minn., Mrs. Gust Boschee, Mrs. Philip Gall, Racine, Wis., Mrs. Albert Thurn, Wishek, Mrs. Julius Hagle, Sacramento, Calif.; three half-brothers, Henry Just, Bismarck, Edwin Just, Igloo, S.D., Theobald Just, Racine, Wis., and one step-brother, Jacob Reich, Hamilton, Mont. Also 22 great-grandchildren. (Haut Funeral Home).
