Bio: PLAINSMAN, Huron, SD, Dec. 10, 2004 ?Ivan A. Bender, 74, of Wessington Springs died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at Avera Weskota Memorial Medical Center.Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Our Savior?s Luther-an Church in Wessington Springs with the Rev. Dan Edz-ards officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.Visitation will be Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church in Wessington Springs. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Funeral arrangements were announced by the Basham Funeral Service of Wessington Springs.Ivan A. Bender was born June 21, 1930, at Wessington Springs to August and Louisa (Bauer) Bender. He attended grade school in Hand County. In 1944 he moved with his family to Wessington Springs and graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1949. In Mar 1,1953 he married Shirley Schroeder at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church at Lane.He was employed at Roy Wahls Cream Station and from 1957 until his retirement in 1992 at the Wessington Springs Co-op. He continued to work part-time at the co-op until his death.He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hand County until they moved to town and built the Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of the National Guard from 1957 to 1962, a member of the city council, Hillcrest Heights Board of Directors, church deacon and trustee, Sunday school superintendent and Prospect Hill Cemetery Board of Directors.He is survived by his wife; two sons, Clinton of Piedmont and David (Janice) of Wessington Springs; three grandchildren, Jamie (Kyle) Wolter, Jennifer (Ryan) Thompson and Jared Bender; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Landon, Kaden and Kindra Wolter, and Payton Thompson; one sister, Elaine Wahl of Huron; eight nieces; eight nephews; and many other relatives.He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruby; and a brother-in-law, Ray Wahl.
