Full Obituary: var sc_project=565380; var sc_partition=4; var sc_security="c3de6127"; var sc_invisible=1; Jack Bender ? 1932 - 2011 Jack Bender, 79, Minot, ND, formerly of Burlington, ND, died Thursday, July 14, 2011, in a Minot hospital. Jack Adam Bender was born June 27, 1932, a son of Adam and Ottilia (Berger) Bender, in St. Anthony, ND. He was raised and educated in St. Anthony. Jack was drafted in the United States Army on October 28, 1952, and was medically discharged December 12, 1952. Jack married Eva Hoffman June 29, 1953, in Bismarck. They made their home in Bismarck until 1955, when they moved to Minot. Jack worked various construction jobs before becoming the owner/operator of Modern Concrete and later Superior Concrete for a number of years. During this time, he also did some general contracting work, building houses and post offices. In 1970, he built the Hacienda Restaurant, which he owned and operated along with his partner, Mike Ell, until 1974. He also owned and operated Fiesta Restaurant from 1971 to 1974. From 1976, to 1988, Jack served as Mayor of Burlington. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Elks, Eagles Aerie, and the American Legion, all of Minot. He enjoyed conversation. He enjoyed visiting with his family and many friends. Most recently he was not able to walk as well, so he took his scooter down to see visit his friends and socialize. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very interested in their lives and always wanted to know how each of them were doing. His loving family includes: wife of 58 years, Eva, Minot; sons, Jack A. (Kathie) Bender, Jr, and Rodney (Jeannette) Bender, both of Dillsburg, PA; daughter, Judy (David) Miller, Minot; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine (Harry) Kline, Mandan; sister-in-law, Ann Bender, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Andrew, Albert, and Leonard Bender. Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot. Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND. Visitation: Tuesday from Noon to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Vigil Prayer Service: Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
