Orville A. Bender, 80, Superior resident, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. He was born on January 30, 1933 in Fargo, ND to Ruben and Clara (Bettger) Bender.
He was employed as grinder operator and section crew with the Burlington Northern Railroad for forty-one years.
Orville married Betty Andrews on January 25, 1958 and they recently celebrated fifty-five years of marriage.
He was a member of The Salvation Army Corps and volunteered his time as a bus driver for over ten years and served on their Corps Council. He was also an active volunteer at the Superior Senior Citizens Center.
Orville is survived by his wife Betty, Superior, WI; daughter, Doreen (Jim) Timmerman, Superior, WI; son, Dan (Wendy) Bender, South Range, WI; three grandchildren, Alicia and Charles Bender and Ashley (Josiah) Davey; three great-grandchildren, Lacey Danielson, Kacey Bachand and Skyler Edquist; five sisters, Leona (Pete) Faucett, Betty Anderson, Pearl Krueger, Alvina (Bill) Tinsley; Linda Anderson; two brothers, Jacob (Camie) Bender and Richard (Bev) Bender; three brother-in-laws, John Isaacson, David (Diane) Isaacson and Gary (Lisa) Isaacson; sister-in-law, Nancy Bender and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Donna Root, brothers Duane and Wilfred “Willie” Bender.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon on Monday, April 1, 2013 at The Salvation Army, 916 Hughitt Avenue, Superior and continue until the 1:00 PM funeral service with (Ret.) Major Jacob Bender officiating.
The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
