The Anthon Herald, 28 January 1948, page 7: Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethel-Peiro church for C.C. Allman, well known resident of Grant Twp. who passed away at his home Saturday afternoon. Rev. M.L. Metcalf of Sioux City officiated at the last rites. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, under direction of Hudgel Funeral Home of Anthon. Christopher C. Allman, son of Jacob and Catherine Allman, was born in Hamilton, Ohio September 17,1856, and died January 24, 1948, at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 7 days, the last of a family of seven. He often recalled the days of his boyhood, spent in the old log cabin, through whose crevices the winter's snow sifted in upon his bed. In March 1871 he came with his father to Wapello Co., Iowa, and the following year the family moved to a farm near Fremont, Iowa. At the age of 13, under the pressure of necessity and with characteristic German thrift, he started to earn his own living, with only 50 cents in his pocket and an extra shirt. In 1888 he came to Woodbury County and in the fall of 1894 he purchased the farm where he spent the remaining years of his life. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Hamilton, Ohio, and upon establishing his permanent residence in the Bethel-Peiro community he became affiliated with the Methodist Church here. He was united in marriage with Mary Maughan January 7, 1909, and to this union two children were born, a daughter, Mrs. Ione Moore and a son, Millard K. Allman. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; one son and one daughter; a foster son, C.K. Warrick, several nieces and nephews, and four grandchildren, Alice, Mary Jane, Keith and Marilyn, in whom he took much pleasure and who adored their Grandpa.
The following article was provided by Cindy Lovell & Steve Hols:
Mrs. Carrie Roquet, Miss Cora Hummel and Ed Allman of Fremont and John Hummel of Rose Hill went to Oto, Iowa, Monday morning. They were called there because of the death of their uncle, C.C. Allman, 91, who died Sunday morning. Funeral services and burial were at Sioux City Tuesday.
