- Thanks for the link. There is some exploration to do, though I can't see an obvious link between the Dutt here and the shepherds whom I follow in Alsace. (The herdsman Dutt trace back to Thomas Dutt, who was shepherd in Gries, 1630.)
As for Margaretha, Michael Ruch (1719-1784) is the only one I know of with a wife Veronica (the name is pretty rare in northern Alsace), and the only one in Zinswiller other than his father, so this is probably another in that family. With the Zinswiller book(s) before 1763 missing, info on their family is pretty much catch as catch can. I haven't looked very closely at baptismal sponsorships in Dossenheim, and it's possible some other children of his might be named there.
Michael's wife Veronica is most likely the daughter of Johannes Febel, who was Bestaender at the herrschaftlich Schafferei in Eckendorf, which is to say, tenant on the landlord's sheep farm. Febel is not a native of Eckendorf and can only be placed there abt 1736-1738. In 1737 his daughter Catharina, 24 y.o., married Johannes Dutt, son of the shepherd in Wickersheim (that would be Philipp Dutt 1682-1740), and in 1738 his daughter Margaretha, 17, married Johann Jacob Ferber from Eckendorf. Neither of the girls was born or even confirmed here, and Margaretha had definitely been confirmed because she was a bp sponsor in 1737. The Ferbers disappear after this, and may have gone wherever Johannes Febel did. The Dutt hang around until 1743 but are gone after that and I've not yet struck their trail again.
All things considered, it seems a pretty good chance that Eva Susanna Dutt, who married Michael Ruch (son of Michael Ruch and Veronica Febel), is a daughter of Johannes Dutt and Catharina Febel, born wherever they moved to.
I've been doing some work south of the Zorn river, where the name Susanna is not uncommon (it's rather scarce north of Zorn), and have found several missing shepherds in other families from further north (mostly Claus, who are nearly as widespread as Ruch and Schnepp), but so far not the missing Dutt. I'd really like to find the marriage of Ruch and Dutt, as it should include a dispensation if their mothers were sisters, as I believe to be the case.
