Elizabeth M. Vogel
Elizabeth M. Vogel, 87, formerly of Garden Grove Drive, Butler, died Tuesday evening at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
Born April 23, 1924, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Louise (Zech) Gomory.
She was a homemaker and mother and was a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.
Elizabeth's passion was art as she was a member of the Associated Artists of Butler County for more than 50 years, where she had been past president three times. She also had taught art classes at Butler County Community College and had helped with numerous Boy Scout, Girl Scout and Brownie troops. She was an avid reader and writer and was a very loving mother and grandmother who will be missed by all of her family.
Surviving are her son, Leonard H. Vogel and his wife, Susanne, of Butler; two daughters, Janice Vogel of Butler and Jean Vogel Schmal and her husband, William, of Absecon, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Darren (Lisa) Lesnik of Wrightstown, N.J., Dena Lesnik Martinez of Butler, Christy Vogel Kozar (Rob Kozar) of Pittsburgh, Stephanie Vogel Zinkham (Randy Zinkham) of Butler, Michelle Steighner Miller of Butler, Paula Steighner Parisi (Michael Parisi) of Butler, Quinn Kiersten Schmal of Absecon, N.J., and Camryn Gaza Schmal of Absecon, N.J.; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a brother, Thomas Gomory of Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Paul Vogel, who she married Sept. 2, 1944, and who died Feb. 8, 2002; a daughter, Linda Vogel; two sisters; and three brothers. VOGEL - Friends of Elizabeth M. Vogel, who died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, will be received at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. The Rev. Steven V. Neff, pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
The St. Paul Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 a.m. Saturday at the church to recite the rosary.
Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001.
