Austin H. Woock

LEWISTON ? Austin H. Woock, of Niagara Falls, died on Sunday, March 4, 2012 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, after a brief illness. He was 100.
He was a native of Niagara Falls born on July 12, 1911, the son of William F. and Mary (Eberly) Woock. He attended Niagara Falls High School and also completed a course in accounting with the Alexander Hamilton Institute of Chicago.
In 1930, Mr. Woock began his 45-year career with Moore in the office at the Gilman Fanfold Corp, which later became Moore Business Forms, Inc. He served in various office capacities and was manager of Moore's Special Products Dept. at the time of his retirement in 1976.
From 1980 to 1990, he worked part time at Tops Markets as a receiver of Grand Island and for the next 10 years did volunteer work for the Community Missions in Niagara Falls.
Mr. Woock served 3O years in the U.S. Army during World War II, and participated in the Normandy Campaign, Northern France, The Rhinelands and Central Europe. He was Radar Technician with Headquarters Battery of the 131st AAA Gun Battalion and attained the rank of Tech Sergeant 3rd grade. He received the European Theatre Medal with four battle stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was a member of the Moore Retiree Club, The American Legion LaSalle Post 1142 and the AARP Association. He also served as President of the former Moore Old Timers Club. He was a member of the former St. Charles R.C. Church.
He is survived by his nieces, Many Ann Woock of Niagara Falls, Nancy Moore of Bell, FL; nephews, Gary L. Woock of Lockport, John A. Woock of Youngstown. He was predeceased by his siblings, William F. Woock and Stanley R. Woock; and nephews, Robert Woock and William Woock, Jr.
Friends may call Thursday after 10 AM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, where the Rev. Kathleen Gahagen will conduct services at 11 AM. The interment will be in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, with military honors. Visit www.lanefuneralhome.com.
