Daniel Anthony Deitering of Maumee, OH passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 31, 2018. Dan was born to Leo Sr. and Rosa (Murray) Deitering on April 18, 1941 in Ottoville, OH.
Dan graduated from Ottoville High School in 1960. In 1965, he had a honorable discharge as an Sp4 from the 3rd Armored Division (Spearhead) stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.
Dan enjoyed creating fond memories with his grandchildren by routinely taking them to the library, the park or playing cards with them or just hanging out. Dan's passion was in genealogy. He loved to research, learn and share information (over and over...) about the history of his family. He was the catalyst for bringing about the first "Deitering World Reunion" to Ottoville, OH in 1996. Dan volunteered and served on the board for the Lucas County Genealogical Society. Dan spent many years dancing as a member of the Deutsche Trachten Gruppe. Every year he looked forward to performing and volunteering at the German American Festival.
Dan is survived by his children, Daniel Nickolas Deitering, Gregory (Jill) Deitering and Martina (Bruce) Benton; and his grandchildren, Audrey, Quinn, Miles and Zane; sister, Mary Lee Laudick; 38 nieces and nephews; and Marita, his former wife and the mother of his children. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Roger, Elmer, James, Herman, Thomas, William, John, Leo Jr., and Robert.
Celebration of Life event will be announced at a later date so friends and family can share memories and stories of Dan. Dan's family would like to thank the 2nd floor staff at St. Luke's Hospital for their compassionate care, especially Shannon. Also, we would like to extend a thank you to the many friendly people he spent his time with at the local Maumee McDonalds and the Perrysburg Senior Citizen Center.
