Bio: Anton J. Renner, 95, Mandan, died March 5, 2002, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with a rosary by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. today and from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, with a rosary by St. Anthony Verein at 7:30 p.m. Friday, all at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to services at the church.Tony was born Sept. 20, 1906, at St. Anthony, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Forster) Renner. He grew up and attended school at St. Anthony. Tony farmed with his father and brothers.He married Rose Bohl on June 23, 1936, and two years later they bought a grocery store with Joe Lanz in St. Anthony. The store burned down a year later; Tony and Rose then went back to farming eight miles west of St. Anthony. In 1948, they bought a home in Mandan and moved to town during the school months, and back out to the farm in the summer months.Tony loved farming, walking outdoors and tinkering in his garage. Tony was a member of the St. Anthony Verein and the Knights of Columbus.He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bernell and Millie, St. Anthony, and Robert, Mandan; four daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and Nick Knoll and Mary Jane and Jay Uhlman, all of Bismarck, Doris and Ed Daemon, Omaha, Neb., and Joyce and Lawrence Hougah, Cherry Hill, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one more on the way; a sister, Rose Gustin, Bismarck; and a brother, Albert Renner, Engelwood, Colo.Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; his parents; four brothers, John, Tacoma, Wash., Ralph, California, Frank, Bismarck, and George, Mandan; and two sisters, Emilia Gustin, Tacoma, Wash., and Pauline Gustin, Mandan.Source: Bismarck Tribune, March 6, 2002
