Roger L. Schumacher, age 79, of Louisville, passed away June 14, 2011 at the Cleveland Clinic following a recent illness.
Roger was born October 4, 1931 in Louisville, the son of the late Simon and Mayme (Haren) Schumacher. He was a graduate of Louisville High School Class of 1949 and proudly served his country as an Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the maintenance department at H-P Products in 1997 following 52 years of service. He was a member of the Louisville Eagles, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #548 and St. Louis Catholic Church. Roger served as an assistant coach for the Walsh College Women's Tennis team and was a timekeeper for the Louisville basketball teams. He was a member of the Amateur Fumble ball Hall of Fame, Softball Hall of Fame and Louisville Leopard football chain gang. He enjoyed playing golf, Ping-Pong, reading, mountaineering and traveling. The most important thing in his life was his family and the time they spent together.
Roger is survived by five sons, Leo (Nancy) Schumacher of Atwater, Dale Schumacher of Louisville, Ray (Ann) Schumacher of Massillon, Ted (Andrea) Schumacher of Louisville and Glen Schumacher of Louisville; a daughter, Betty (Dan) Major of Akron; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carlotta, who passed away in 1995; sisters, Marcella Whampler and Mary Gulling; brothers, Paul, Harold, Russel and Leo Schumacher; and sister-in-law, Arlene Schumacher.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. Louis Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. David Menegay officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Roger's family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville.
