Hudson F. Hawk

Hudson F. "Budd" Hawk, 88, of Carroll Township, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at his home. He was born Dec. 5, 1922, in Donora, a son of the late Alonzo and Myrtle (Holmes) Hawk. A graduate of Rostraver High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was a well-known musician and vocalist, playing guitar, pedal steel guitar and occasionally bass in and around the Valley. He played with numerous bands, the last being with The Jam Band at Hey Andy's, which he retired from six months ago due to failing health. In 2001, he was honored for his success in the music business, being surprised by over 300 people at a dance party held by fellow musicians to celebrate 60 years of entertaining. He often said he'd quit playing when they carried him off the bandstand, and came very close to doing just that. Budd retired from the Department of Welfare in 1985. Surviving are his wife, Lorena Rene (Chilzer) Hawk; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dianne Hawk Days, of Monessen, and Lynne Hawk and Jack Stapleton, of Carroll Township; three grandchildren, Richard Lastoka, Tara (Don) Everette and Adam (Amy) Days; two stepgrandchildren, Carrie Morrow and Amanda (Josh) Swearer; three great-grandchildren, Peter, Noah, and Elijah Days; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Jason and Evan Morrow and Riley Swearer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, James Don Hawk, Charles Ray Hawk, Eileen Pat Hawk Shawley and Robert W. Hawk; a son-in-law, Lloyd Days; and a stepgrandson, John Ryan Stapleton. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, (724) 929-5300, www.fergusonfuneralhomeandcrematory.com. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Henry Frain officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Carroll Township.
