Justine was born August 29, 1921, in Millerville, MN, in her grandfather Drexler's house, the twin daughter of Mayme Drexler Soderquist and Olaf Albert Soderquist. Grandfather Drexler, a physician, delivered the twins, who were put in shoe boxes surrounded by hot bricks to stay warm. The Soderquist family of Justine, Marie, Faye and parents moved to Bismarck from the Twin Cities in 1930. Justine, along with her sisters, attended St. Mary's Elementary and High School in Bismarck, graduating in 1938. She worked at the First National Bank in Bismarck and on August 26, 1946, married Ernest R. Fleck at St. Mary's Church. He practiced law in North Dakota until his death in 1995.
Justine had been a member of Corpus Christi parish and most recently, Cathedral Parish. She belonged to the Altar Guild, the Petroleum Wives, was active in St. Alexius Hospital Auxiliary and worked on St. Mary's carnivals for many years. She participated in the Bismarck Follies in the 1950s, along with members of her beloved bridge club-the group who met regularly but never played bridge. An avid bridge player, nevertheless, Justine was also well-known as an enthusiastic gardener and hostess. She and Ernie enjoyed vacations in Scottsdale and also spent many happy summers at their house on Lake Melissa, Detroit Lakes.
Justine's daughters, granddaughter and caregiver were with her when she died.
Justine is survived by her sister, Faye Johnson; her son and spouse, Joel and Connie Fleck; her daughters and spouses, Barbara and Harry Boyce and Jane Fleck Romanov and Allen Mutchler; five grandchildren, Jennifer Fleck Fredrick (Chad), Michael Fleck (Heather), Elizabeth Boyce, Benjamin Boyce (Betsy), Suzanna Boyce Berndt (Bradford). There are four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many friends and caregivers whose love and attention was greatly appreciated.
Her grandson Sasha (Alexander) Romanov preceded her in death, as did her husband, Ernie and her twin sister, Marie; along with many beloved friends and relatives.
