Keith Claus, age 80, of Massillon passed away Friday morning following a courageous batle with cancer. He was born on Jan. 12, 1928 in Miltonsburg, Monroe County, Ohio and was a graduate of Woodsfield High School. He was a life-long hunter, sportsman and outdoorsman, receiving numerous awards for his efforts in wildlife conservation and hunter education. He was a life member of the Game Reserve Assoc. (GRA); he served as its president for 15 years; he was a life member of the Brown Township Sportsmans Club and was a member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He had been an Ohio Hunter Education instructor for nearly 40 years. He retired in 1988 from the Massillon Post Office after 30 years of service. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church and was a member of Clinton Lodge #47 F & AM. Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Stella (Schrader) Claus; his sisters, Ruth Claus and Charlene Claus Drake and niece, Cheryl Keylor. Keith is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donna Jean Claus; his son, David K. Claus and daughter-in-law Dena Claus; twin granddaughters, Holly and Heather Claus, who were Keith's pride and joy; sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, Betty and Dick Secrest. He is also survived by the Keylor Family of Woodsfield, Ohio, the Hinderlong Family of Wayne, New Jersey and the Secrest Family of North Canton. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to all their relatives, friends and neighbors who helped in any way during Keith's illness and at the time of his death. Such kindness will be long remembered. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel with Pastor James Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the American Cancer Society.
