Logging Accident takes man
Forest Kemmer of RD 2 Summerville, was killed Wednesday afternoon in a logging accident in Warsaw Township, Jefferson County. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Paul A. Evans.
Kemmer, 58, was emplyed by the Clyde Miles Lumber Co., Limestone, which was cutting trees at a logging site two miles North of Richardsville, 1.5 miles North of Route 968.
DuBois-based State Police said Kemmer was working alone cutting trees Wednesday morning.
At quitting time in the afternoon, one of the other lumbermen had seen Kemmer leave the area where he had been working so they notified Miles.
Miles and his son investigated, police said, and found Kemmer had been killed by a fallen tree which apparently had struck him on the head.
The Jefferson County Corner's Office rules death was accidential and had occurred some time between 11 a.m. and noon.
Forest Edward Kemmer was born Nov. 22, 1922 in Kersey, son of Thomas and Elsie Disque Kemmer. He married Dec. 17 1949, to Blanche Elizabeth Fye.
A member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church at Crates, he was a veteran of World War II.
Surviors include his widow; four sons, Forest E. Jr. and Jeffery, both of RD 2 Summerville and Perry and Terry, both at home; three daughters, Nancy, Deborah and Denise, all at home, two grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence of RD 2 Summerville; six sisters, Mrs. Reid Smith (Helen) of RD Strattanville, Mrs. Otto (Margaret) Lynch of Warren, Mrs. Foster (Dorothy) Edmiston of Tiona, Mrs. William Baxter (Edna) of Oil City, Hazel Kemmer of RD 2 Summerville and Mrs. Edward Cyphert (Louise).
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister.
Funeral services were Saturday at St. Nicholas Church in Crates. the Rev. Edward Bula officiated. Burial was in St. Nicholas Cemetery.
