O.D. was born to Oscar Dial Stinson Cannon and Celina Geiger Cannon. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1937. He worked in the office of Shepherd Laundry from 1935 to 1937. He then attended Taylor School in Houston where he was trained and graduated as a Machinist First Class. After graduation he went to work for Brown Oil Tool (later Baker Hughes) where he was a loyal employee for 44 years. He took great pride in his work, during the years of World War II contributing to the war effort, and always giving his best. On August 5, 1939, he married Audrey Linsicombe. He was enlisted in the United States Navy, April 18, 1945 and served as an apprentice seaman. He was honorably discharged June 5, 1945. O.D. is preceded in death by his beloved wife Audrey and one brother Joseph Andrew Cannon. He is survived by a brother William Stinson Cannon; daughter Sylvia Jean Wooten and husband Walter Ronald Wooten; daughter Donna Jeanette Faries and husband Dr. Floron C. "Buddy" Faries Jr.; son Stephen Dial Cannon and wife Linda Black Cannon; daughter Cathy Ruth Lassiter and husband William Henry Lassiter; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and a member of the Encourager class. His church and Sunday school friends were a cherished part of his life and ministered to him until the end of his time on this earth. At home, O.D. was surrounded by his neighbors who were his life long friends.
