- [S8] Information from an informant - Auskunft eines Informanten - Information d'un informateur.
Dear Ursula and Recs:
The following was typed before you entered info into your database. I
held off sending it, so that Judy could review it first.
Therefore, some on the info is already in your db. Much of it is not.
Under separate cover, I will send cemetery records, as well as more info
on the Johannes Jacob Mandery born 1821.
Extension of Johannes Jakob Mandery Line (1817)
The second child of Benjamin was born on the same day that you list in
your database. He died from exhaustion on Jan. 20, 1874. He is buried in
Spring Grove (see link below):
http://www.springgrove.org/stats/25630.tif.pdf
Kind of strange that he was buried a month later.
His wife Catherine ((maiden name appears as Deck on burial card) was born
1818-1819 and died on July 5, 1899 (see link):
http://www.springgrove.org/stats/63577.tif.pdf
Children of Jakob and Catherine.....
Andrew Mandery ? I did find his death certificate, but believe that his
father was mistakenly listed as Andrew. In fact, the informant did not
know the mother's name either. It is a fact this his mother, Catherine
was the grave owner (listed on Spring Grove Cemetery records). There is
also no other Andrew buried in this site.
B: Mar. 24, 1842, D: Apr. 28, 1911. The death certificate states that he
was buried on May 2, 1911.
Death link:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X8DQ-HJK
He is buried in Spring Grove (burial card link):
http://www.springgrove.org/stats/80653.tif.pdf
I located Andrew, wife and children in 1880. Wife was born about 1843 in
Kentucky. The children were all born in Ohio: Jacob (16), Catherine (13)
and John C. (8).
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M89S-PJS
He was married to: Katherine (Kate) Sein, according to the death record I
found on his son, John C. I will bring that link up under John C. Kate
maiden name listed as Seim) is also buried in Spring Grove, maiden name
listed as Seim (see link to card) death date Feb. 5, 1899:
http://www.springgrove.org/stats/62951.tif.pdf
Though I did not find a marriage record for Andrew and Kate, I did find
the second marriage to Henrietta Wehrung Feuerstein on June 13, 1900. She
was born about 1849 in Germany.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X8C7-1KF
Children of Andrew and Kate Sein or Seim:
For now, I am only including John C.. I did not find Catherine, but the
Jacob I found could belong to either Jacob (1817 or 1821). Will continue
to search records.
Julia (daughter of Jacob -1817)
You found a piece of information that I did not have regarding her
marriage to Wilhelm Conrad (listed as Conradt) in Spring Grove. Nor did I
have her son, Charles. There are 21 people buried in Garden Ln Section
14, Lot 25. Owner of the grave site was Catherine Mandery (presume it's
Jacob's wife).
Links to graves for Wilhem and son, Charles:

Give me time to go thru all of the 21, for relationships. In the
meanwhile,
Julie was married to George Garnatz, after death of Conrad/Conradt. Could
not find a marriage record, but her name appears on daughter, Louise's
death record. Louise as born on Dec. 23, 1882 and died Nov 3, 1916,
passing away from typhoid fever:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X8N8-8V8
It appears that Louise was married, as I found a record. However, I could
not find her and husband in census records, so perhaps they divorced.
Otherwise I do not know why her maiden name was used on death record.
Marriage record:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XDXM-FDR
She is buried in Spring Grove:
http://www.springgrove.org/stats/88056.tif.pdf
I did find a 1900 census record, showing George, Julia and Louise:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MM8K-713
The census stated that they married about 1869 and that George was born
in Oct., 1843, Germany. Last name is listed as Garnate on census.
Judy located his name on the other side of the Mandery headstone in
Spring Grove. The stone reads: Oct. 28, 1843-May 31 1904.
Julia is also buried there, per her card from Spring Grove (died: July
18, 1938):
http://www.springgrove.org/stats/119761.tif.pdf
This card DEFINITELY has a typo, listed her birth as: Oct. 8, 1876. I
believe it should read 1846.
They also had a youngster, Arthur (listed as Anthers on burial card). He
was only two when he died (b: about 1877, d: Mar. 31, 1879):
http://www.springgrove.org/stats/32437.tif.pdf
George and Julia also had a son, George (Apr. 6, 1871-Nov. 19.1913). He
is buried in Spring Grove. His name led to other information. See burial
card link:
http://www.springgrove.org/stats/84088.tif.pdf
George, Jr. married Amelia K. Beiler (born about 1875) on March 28,
1894:t
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X8CS-QN5
Per 1910 census, they had three children: George F. (13), Hilda C. (11),
Mildred S. (7):
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/ML89-C22
Amelia does not appear in the same plot as her husband. She remarried to
Edward Eckel after George's death, per 1920 census:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MDBG-LH6
Son, George F. married Edna Caroline Schneider on May 28, 1926:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XZY4-YH8
Edna was born on June 8, 1896 and died on May 24, 1993. See link:
http://www.springgrove.org/geneology.aspx?id=196364&cemetery=SPRINGGROVE
In the 1940 census, George and Edna had a daughter: Mary Carol:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KWPY-K25
George F. was born on Feb. 3, 1897 and died on May 18, 1960. See link on
Spring Grove:
http://www.springgrove.org/stats/147805.tif.pdf
I did not find any further information on the daughters.
Rosina or Rose (daughter of Jacob 1817) was married to Henry Schmitt on
Nov. 30, 1856:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XD86-LMP
Judy located his name on the back of the Mandery monument. I found the
record on Spring Grove.
It stated that he was born on Feb. 18, 1883 and died on Aug. 13, 1935:
http://www.springgrove.org/stats/115704.tif.pdf
Rosina was born about 1839 and died on Feb. 21, 1911, per Spring Grove
burial card:
http://www.springgrove.org/stats/80337.tif.pdf
The names are common, so I could not really prove anything by viewing
census records. There were other Schmitt's buried in the same grave site,
but I am thinking that they were related to Henry.
