Beatrice passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.
Beatrice Kuntz was born on January 1, 1907 in Stark County, the daughter of Simon and Monica (Dukart) Kuntz. She grew up and attended country school east of Schefield through the seventh grade. At an early age, Beatrice worked on the family farm with her parents. She had also worked in the kitchen at St. Joseph’s Hospital. One evening at a barn dance, Beatrice met the farm neighbor, Valentine Walter, who became her husband on October 28, 1930 at St. Pius Church in Schefield, North Dakota. To this union four sons, Simon, Clifford, Donald and Roger were born. Together through the years, the family farmed near Versippi, Lefor and South Heart. In 1952, they moved to South Heart and operated Walters Coal Mine. In 1974, they retired and moved to Dickinson. After the loss of Val (1989), Beatrice maintained her home until 2003 when she made her final home at Evergreen Assisted Living in Dickinson. She had a quick wit and never beat around the bush. Beatrice enjoyed traveling throughout her lifetime. She kept busy with quilting, crocheting and sewing for her grandchildren.
Beatrice was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church most of her life, later becoming a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Beatrice is survived by her sons, Clifford (Eleanor) and Donald (Mabel) of Dickinson, and Roger (Terry) of Bowman; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Ann Walter.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Valentine; son, Simon Walter; daughter-in-law, Catherine Walter; 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
