Helen May Wuitschick, 74, of Anchorage died of respiratory failure Jan. 6, 2010, at Providence Alaska Medical Center, surrounded by her family and loved ones. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Cross Catholic Parish, 3627 Lore Road. Pallbearers were Mark Wuitschick, Greg Wuitschick, John Tisch, Doug Wuitschick, Ian Lamp and Mike Craig. Honorary pallbearers were Cullen Tisch, Terry Leingang, Walter Wuitschick, Tony Leingang and Jerry Wuitschick. A visitation was held prior to the time of the Mass.
Helen was born Sept. 21, 1935, in Sidney, Mont., to the late Anton and Rosemary Leingang. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy in Yakima, Wash. Helen retired from the State of Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles in 1999 after 20 years of service. She had also worked in the accounting offices of Sears in various states over the years. As a lifetime member of the Catholic church, Helen volunteered as a catechism teacher. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge. Her hobbies included sewing, ceramics, cooking, needlework, stamping, scrapbooking, collecting Hallmark ornaments and reading. Her family wrote: "She was always there for her family and very supportive. She liked to feed everyone, was a good listener, and never offered an opinion unless asked. Helen was a caring, loving wife, mother and friend." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Bridget Wuitschick; sister, Dorothy Fischer; and brothers, Eugene Leingang and Marvin Leingang.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Wuitschick; sons, Mark (Robbie) Wuitschick of Palmer, Greg (fiance Carolyn Woo) Wuitschick of Anchorage and Doug (Wendy) Wuitschick of Canyon Country, Calif.; daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Craig of Anchorage, Valery (John) Tisch of Palmer and Terese Anderson of Anchorage; grandchildren, Ian Lamp, Sara Craig and Jessica Craig, all of Anchorage, Cullen Tisch, Katherine Tisch and Sean Tisch, all of Palmer, Ashley Anderson of Anchorage, Rayce Wuitschick of Canyon Country, Calif., Justin Wuitschick and Valli Harrell of Clarksville, Tenn., J.D. Hatley, Byron Hatley, Laci Mattingley, Spencer Hatley, Helen Lanisha Wuitschick and Mark Wuitschick II, all of Palmer, and Brandon Woo of Anchorage; great-grandchildren, Madeline Harrell of Clarksville, and Chantel Drakeford; and brothers, Robert (Leah) Leingang of Olympia, Wash., Art (Patricia) Leingang of Oroville, Calif., and Terry Leingang of Rochester, Wash.
