BITUARY REBECCA JAHRAUS MAPLE CREEK NEWS JULY 1992 Vol. 92 # 7
Rebecca Jahraus was born February 15, 1907 at Lehr, North Dakota and passed away July 17, 1992 at Maple Creek Union Hospital, Maple Creek, Saskatchewan.
She is survived by daughter Irene (Harry) Opsal; their family - Ricky, Beverly, Melissa & Ashley- Terry, Gail, Thellissa & Dawn; daughter-in-law Mary Jahraus and her family- Debbi, Matt Robert & Lars Lowther of Battleford, Sask.- Robert Deane, Michael, Theresa, Adam & Frances Jahraus of Calgary- Gary & Kyle Jahraus of Warman, Sask.; three brothers- Bill (Stella) Berreth of Maple Creek; Dan (Violet) Berreth of Medicine Hat; Alec Berreth of Maple Creek; five sisters Helen (Bill) Morden of Kamloops, B.C.; Martha Underwood of Neepawa, Man.; Lydia Neitz of Medicine Hat; Hilda (Bill) Michalezki of Lloydminister, Sask.; Susan Wilson of Coronation, Alberta: sister-in-law Hannah Berreth of Maple Creek; brother-in-law Herman Jahraus of Chase, B.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William, and her son, Harry.
Rebecca Jahraus was born to Henry and Lydia Berreth. She came to Canada with her parents, and brothers Ted, Albert, Henry, Bill, John, and Reuben in 1914. She attended school for a short time at Sagathun, but being the eldest daughter was needed at home.
She married William (Bill) Jahraus April 1, 1930, an they had a son, Harry and daughter, Irene. They farmed north of Maple Creek until the early 40's when they moved to Maple Creek.
Rebecca loved her garden. She spent many hours weeding, watering and had the joy of preserving her produce. She enjoyed doing hand work, until poor eyesight forced her to lay it aside. Her brothers and sisters thought of her as their second mom, and her door was always open to her family.
She lived in her own home until the fall of 1984 when she went to live with her daughter and son-in-law, and in 1985 she became a resident of the Cypress Lodge, where she resided until slightly more than a week ago when their loving care was no longer enough.
The funeral was held from the Maple Creek United Church Tuesday, July 21 with Rev. Louise Skibsted officiating, Interment followed in the Maple Creek Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were- Royce Smith, Mel Eckart, Johnny Gold, Steve Kruczko, Jim Lambert, Herb Widmer.
Active pallbearers were- George Andreas, Eddy Kaglea, Tom Briggs, Clarence Glascock, Bill Kruczko, Otto Widmer.
Binkley's Funeral Service of Maple Creek and Leader was in charge of arrangements.
Friends who so wish may remember Mrs. Jahraus with a gift to the Cypress Lodge or the Maple Creek Union Hospital.
