Evelyn L. Bowers

Evelyn L. Bowers, 88, of Bartonville, Illinois formerly of Taylorville, Illinois, passed away at 9:15pm on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Bartonville.
Evelyn was born on March 13, 1924, in Pana, Illinois to Donald and Laura (Neece) Budds. She married Jack R. Bowers on November 14, 1947. He passed away July 7, 2011. She was also preceded in death by one infant son, Charles Richard Bowers.
Surviving are 3 children, Delores (Steve) Payne of Lancaster, Ohio, Sue (Ron) Meinders of Bartonville, Illinois and Richard (Monica) Bowers of Pocahontas, Illinois. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Christian (Brenda Marit) Payne, Catrina (Jim) Patrey, Benjamin Payne, Cynthia (Chris Heinrich) Meinders, John (Stephanie Aagaard) Bowers, Joshua (Jessica Sanders ) Bowers and; 14 great-grandchildren, Blake Payne, Darian Payne, Mason Patrey, Mirelle Patrey, Cedric Patrey, Hannah Patrey, Laurissa Douglas, Aly Heinrich, Ethan Heinrich, Brittni Heinrich, Alex Butcher, Helena Heinrich, Corey Heinrich and two great-grandsons, Audi Hummell and Payton Bowers.
Evelyn was a 1941 graduate of Pana High School. She worked in a factory sewing gloves in Indiana during World War II and received her beautician certificate after returning to Pana, Illinois.
She met her husband Jack after returning to Pana and started her new career as a housewife and mother. Even though she never held a paying job after they married she was quite adamant that she did have a job at home. She was always very proud of their homes enjoyed decorating them with various collections of nick knacks over the years but teddy bears were her favorite. She was always very active in the churches throughout the years as Jack progressed in his career.
After Jack?s retirement they enjoyed square dancing and camping.
Funeral Information
Cremation Rites have been accorded and a graveside service will be held 11am on Wednesday May 9th 2012 at Mound Cemetery in Pana with Pastor Ted Marrinan officiating.
Donations Information
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church of Edinburg, Illinois, where Jack and Evelyn were members.
