John L. Bulfer

John Lester "Pat" Bulfer, 92, of 1001 Washington St., Mendota died Jan. 14, 2012 at his home.
Visitation was from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Jan. 17 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Maytown followed by a Mass of Christian burial officiated by Father Max Lasrado. Burial was at St. Patrick Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
Pall bearers were his grandsons, Kent Bickett, Ward Donovan, Eric MacDonald, Craig Doran, James Bulfer and Andrew Bulfer.
Mr. Bulfer was born March 17, 1919 in Sublette to Andrew W. and Nancy (Turner) Bulfer. He married Lorraine G. Lathrop on Oct. 14, 1941. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2011.
Survivors include his wife; six children, Nancy (Mike) Bickett of Princeton, Margie (Dan) Donovan of Sublette, Janice (George) Connolly of Westminster Colo., Joyce MacDonald of Thornton Colo., John (Betty) of Mendota, and Tom (Monica) of Amboy; 24 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary (Louie) DalSanto of Rockford, Dorothy (Ed) Sreenan of Ocala, Fla. and Ellen (Don) Jones of Mendota.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Doran; one granddaughter, Angela; six brothers, Joseph, Leo, Harry, Gilbert "Dick", Arthur "Dude" and Dennis; and one sister, Catherine.
Mr. Bulfer was a life long farmer in May Township. He was a devout Catholic, and was a member and president of the St. Patrick Holy Name Society and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He served as supervisor of May Township and was on the Lee County Board of Supervisors until 1976.
