Mathilda Martha Neuhart, daughter of Harm and Emma (Gerfen) Fischer, was born March 17, 1920 on a farm north of Byron, Nebraska. She passed from this life, Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Thayer County Hospital, Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 91 years. Mathilda was baptized on March 28, 1920 at S. John Lutheran Church rural Byron and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church rural Byron on November 4, 1934. Having completed her 8th grade education at Nuckolls County Rural School #83, Mathilda helped on the family farm and for other area families. She was united in marriage to Reuben Neuhart on June 27, 1946 at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler. Born to this union a son, Paul, and a daughter Linda Lou who was still born. Mathilda worked as a cook at Parkview Haven Nursing Home and at Trinity Lutheran School. She was also employed at the Deshler Broom factory until her retirement. She farmed with Reuben for many years until he retired and they moved into Deshler. Mathilda was quite involved in the Ladies Aide of the church making countless numbers of quilts. She enjoyed word searches, playing cards and watching her favorite television shows. Mathilda was preceded in death by her parents; husband Reuben in 2010; infant daughter; grandson Matthew; sisters Dorothy and Lorene; and brothers Herman and Rudolph. She will be forever remembered by her son Paul of Deshler; granddaughter Susan Neuhart, Salina; brother Robert (Julie) Fischer of Decorah, Iowa; sisters-in-law Olga Eitzmann of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mildred Fischer of Ong, Nebraska; step brother-in-law Harold (Lucille) Gerberding, Deshler, Nebraska many other relatives and friends.
