Robert G. Koontz, 83, of Pana, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 3:55 p.m. in Birmingham, Alabama. He was born June 6, 1923, in Pana, the son of Otto and Marie Arnold Koontz. Robert was a graduate of Pana Township High School, and later served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II. He had lived his entire life in Pana, except when he wintered in Okeechobee, Florida. Robert owned and operated Koontz Brothers Ready Mix and Trucking Company in Pana. He went into business with his brother Ralph in 1946, and had been in business over 60 years. He was a member of the VFW #4431; American Legion; AmVets; Senior Citizens, all in Pana; Moose Lodge # 1015, Pana, where he was secretary for 46 years; and past member of the Pana Community Hospital board.
Robert married Kathleen Doris Duffett on August 3, 1945. They were later divorced.
He is survived by his daughters: Patricia Starbird & husband Roger, Decatur, IL; Christine Hill & husband Jim, Jupiter, FL; Andrea Chamberlain & husband Rick, Ramsey, IL; and Wendy Miller & husband Mike, Pana, IL; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ralph Koontz; and sisters: Eleanora Dudzik and Theresa McGrath.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 1, 2007 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 2, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home with Rev. Lawrence Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Pana with graveside military rites by VFW/American Legion/AmVets, Pana.
Memorials may be made to the Pana Community Hospital Foundation, 101 E. 9th St., Pana, IL 62557 or Sacred Heart School, 3 E. 4th St., Pana, IL 62557.
