Clarence "Clancy" Glaser, 84, Glendive, Mont., passed away on Dec. 17, 2015, at his home. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. MST Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glendive, with the Rev. Francis Schreiber officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Dawson Memorial Cemetery, Glendive.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. MST and 6 to 8 p.m. MST today at Silha Funeral Home, Glendive, where a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. MST.
Clarence was born Jan. 29, 1931, in Mandan, to Nicholas and Mary (Fischer) Glaser. He was educated through the eighth grade in Glen Ullin and worked on a farm.
Clarence was drafted into the U.S. Army on Nov. 16, 1951. He served through the Korean Conflict and achieved the rank of corporal. On Aug. 15, 1953, he was discharged from service at Walters Air Force Base in Texas. Clarence received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal during his military service. Clarence returned to North Dakota and went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad for the next 40-plus years, until his retirement as a conductor in 1993.
On Oct. 8, 1953, Clarence was united in marriage to Gladys (Emter) in Glen Ullin and from this union five children were born, Sandy, Kathy, Jeff, Kelvin and Todd. Clarence was involved with the VFW in Glendive and was part of the BNSF Union. He took pride in his yard and garden. He was known for his unique laugh which will never be forgotten by many. Clarence enjoyed going to the Minnesota Twins games and always tried to get to sporting events at local ballparks in Glendive. Clarence dearly loved his grandchildren, which in turn they loved him very much.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Gladys Glaser; his daughters, Sandy (Paul) Bartholomew, Dickinson, and Kathy Glaser, Bismarck; his sons, Jeff Glaser, Dickinson, Kelvin (Jane) Glaser, Gillette, Wyo., and Todd (Wendy) Glaser, Glasgow, Mont.; his brothers, Gene (Delores) Glaser, Dickinson, Tom (Bridget) Glaser, Dickinson, Dan (Carrie) Glaser, Vancouver, Wash., and Alvin (Rosemary) Glaser, Bismarck; his sister, Ann Hondl, Bismarck; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
