Mary T. Bongen, 78
Mary T. Rund Bongen, 78, of 1404 N. 28th St., died at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She had been a patient there since Oct. 20.
Born Aug. 20, 1927, in Tuscola, Ill., she attended grade school in Paris, Ill., and was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield, Ill., and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lafayette.
She married James E. Bongen on Sept. 4, 1948, in Lafayette, and he survives.
Mrs. Bongen worked as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for 24 years, retiring in 1991.
She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Parish Nurses and the St. Lawrence Quilting Club.
Mrs. Bongen enjoyed traveling.
Surviving with her husband are six sons, Jerry E. Bongen (wife: Elizabeth) of Kodiak, Ark., Frank R. Bongen of Youngstown, Ohio, Mark T. Bongen and Christopher A. Bongen (wife: Christina), both of Portland, Ore., Douglas P. Bongen (wife: Ann) of Batavia, Ill., and Gregory J. Bongen of Hoboken, N.J.; two daughters, Jamie M. Filley (husband: Ross) of Portland and Andrea S. Bongen of Lafayette; two brothers, Joseph Rund (wife: Lorraine) of Romney and Herbert Rund (wife: Ann) of Owatonna, Minn.; and a sister, Jerri Bastin of Indianapolis.
