Hi Ursula,
Thank you so much for updating our family records. We're proud to be part
of the Birkenhoert Projekt!
It has been fascinating to follow the family tree back hundreds of years.
With modern technology (Google Images), I have also "flown" over the
village and the surrounding countryside. It is very similar to the area in
New York State where my branch of the family settled -- Rochester, New
York. There are lots of forests and hills.
I even found a photo on your site of my great-great-great grandfather,
Anton Ehrstein, on his wedding day in 1860! I love the use of photos on
the site.
If it is not too much trouble, I have a few more updates:
On my mother's page (Barbara Marie Mathis, nee Veltz), the family is
listed as "Unknown Mathis." Her husband and my father was Gerard Leo
Mathis, b. January 23, 1931, d. October 9, 1998.
This change would also apply to my page and my sister's page (Kathleen
Marie Mathis), and the pages of my children, Joshua, Jennifer, Maximillian
and Henry Mathis.
I am planning a trip to Germany next year and I will visit the village.
Recently, I bought a home in south Florida, near Miami, so I am hoping to
find a family to trade houses with for a month -- then I can experience
what is is like to really live in the area, not just visit (it's so much
cheaper to trade homes than pay for a hotel for a month, and I live in a
beautiful area very close to the ocean).
Again, thank you for your prompt response and updates.
By the way, your English is excellent (ausgezeichnet!); you speak it like
a native American. Have you ever been to the U.S.A.?
Best,
Mike Mathis
