Bender, 80, Bismarck, died Sept. 9, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Private family services will be held. Albert was born June 4, 1920, at Washburn, the son of John and Carolina (Hirsch) Bender. He was raised and educated in Washburn. He farmed in the Washburn area until 1970. He then worked construction until his retirement in 1989. He married Sophie Zimmermann on Oct. 17, 1953, in Bismarck. Albert enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to auction sales, and feeding animals. He is survived by two sons, Sidney Bender and Lyndon Bender, both of Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Edie and Marv Kary, Mandan; and one grandson, Jason Kary. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Julius, Emil, Harold and Edwin; and five sisters, Amelia Bender, Helmina Berger, Mathilda Olson, Annette Blumhagen and Ella Bender.
