HOUSTON - Captain Clyde "Frank" Lang, one of aviation's most colorful pilots, passed away July 10, 2010, in Houston, Texas, after a brief illness. Lang, who was born and raised in Roseville, was 87.
After a lengthy career as a commercial pilot, Lang flew undercover missions for the Drug Enforcement Agency, U.S. Customs and the U.S. State Department. He also flew relief supplies for the United Nations to remote African villages. For years, until he was 82, he flew the classic four-engine, three-tailed Constellation to air shows throughout the country and in Europe.
Captain Lang is survived by his sons, Dennis Lang (Jeri) of Spring, Texas, and Kevin Lang (Anita) of League City, Texas; grandchildren Chad Lang, Cherise Schwab and Christopher Schwab, all of Spring, Texas; sisters Martha Hoyt of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Janet Hill of Coal Valley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Clyde and Melba Lang of Roseville, and sisters Eleanor Arnold of Rockford, Charlotte Berg of Scottsdale, Ariz., Lucille Twomey of Roseville and Joan Patch of New Boston.
A celebration of Captain Lang's life will be in Roseville on Saturday, July 31, at an outdoor service at 11 a.m. at the War Memorial, followed by a light lunch at the American Legion Hall. Afterward, his ashes will be spread over the farm where he was raised.
