Bio: Mrs. Charlotte Eichhorn, Iowa Pioneer is DeadMrs. Charlotte Eichhorn, a resident of Hornick and vicinity for the past fifty years passed away at her home here on last Monday following an illness of two months. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist church of this city of which she had been a faithful and active worker since moving here from the farm home northeast of Holly Springs many years ago. The many beautiful floral offerings, together with the large concourse of friends, neighbors and relatives from far and near who gathered to pay their last respects to this loved and highly respected pioneer lady exemplified the esteem in which she was held. The community is saddened by the passing on of this fine woman and extend to the sons and daughters and other relatives their sincere consolation.Interment was in Graceland Park cemetery, Morningside beside the resting place of her life mate who passed away here four years ago. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Peters and Becker with the Reverend Carl Hammer officiating. Those attending the services from a distance were: Roy Schuttloffel and wife, Andy Schuttloffel and wife of Walnut, Iowa; Fred Eichhorn and wife and Mr. Jurguson of Remsen, Iowa; Art Eichhorn and wife of Sioux Falls, S. D.; Emma Rusk and daughter, Joe Aham, Gertrude Willenberg, Wes Cisne, Sarah Carbaugh all of Sioux City; Emma Lang and daughter Lucy of Smith, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Tucker and family of Jefferson, Iowa and Amiel Schuttloffel and wife of Larchwood, Iowa. ~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~Mrs. Charlotte Yockey Eichhorn was born near Iowa City, Iowa, on December 16, 1857, and died at her home in Hornick, Iowa, Monday morning December 30, 1929, at the age of 72 years and 14 days. She united in marriage with Martin Eichhorn February 10, 1880 at Oasis, Iowa, a town not far from her home, and after one year the young couple moved to Pottawattamie county. They did not however live there more than one year and then moved to a place 6.5 miles northeast of Hornick which is known as the Eichhorn farm. Twenty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Eichhorn retired from active farm work and moved to Hornick where the husband died almost 5 years ago, and where now the widow followed him in death. Eight children were born to them. One of them died in early infancy, and the living are Wm. M. Eichhorn of Hornick; Mrs. Emma E. Lang of Roseville, Ill.; Rolly C. Eichhorn of Rodney; Mrs. Gertrude M. Rose of Hornick, the twin sisters, Mrs. Ella Rose of Hornick, and Mrs. Nelle Tucker of Jefferson, Iowa, and Mrs. Maude Egger of Holly Springs. Besides these 7 children she leaves also 22 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.Almost 3 years ago it was found she was afflicted with cancer and was operated upon. She never fully recovered her health, and some time ago she suffered a slight paraletic stroke. Eight weeks ago she went to the Methodist hospital for treatment and after 3 weeks she went back to her home where she lingered 5 weeks and then went to sleep as peacefully as a child does at the close of day.She has been a member of the Methodist church since girlhood and a good and dependable member she has been. One of the kind we can ill afford to lose. She was a woman of sturdy character, who did her work in the fear of the Lord. She was a good housekeeper, a faithful wife and a mother who did her best to raise her children right. Nobly and faithfully she did her work and her children who were at her bedside when death came rise up and call her blessed. She had a host of friends who respected her and as they learned to know her, loved her. The church and the community are sorrowing because she is no more with us, but today, we remember that it is better to be with the Lord.
