Hett, Leo “Boy”
Menasha
Leo “Boy” C. Hett, age 93, was reunited with the love of his life, Rita, on January 31, 2010, with his daughter Becky holding his hand. He was born on October 22, 1916 in Park Falls, WI to the late Benjamin and Elizabeth (Bruch) Hett. Leo spent his earlier years in Butternut, WI. The family then moved to Menasha in 1926. He returned to Butternut to help his grandparents Henry and Albertina Hett on the family farm and sawmill and “grandpa’s” threshing machine. He was able to return in 2008 to Butternut and show his children where he grew up. This time he didn’t have to bring “the hot rocks” and he didn’t have to patch the inner tube. Leo attended St. Mary Grade and High School.
Leo was united in marriage to Rita Sanders at St. Mary Catholic Church, Kaukauna, on September 2, 1939 they enjoyed 63 wonderful years. Rita preceded him in death on February 8, 2004. Leo belonged to Germania Benevolent Society and was a member of the Retiree’s Club, Union 563. He enjoyed listening to Brewers games, and cheering for any opposing team that played against the Packers. He loved to travel up north to his cabin with his wife, Rita. Leo was a mechanic at Remick Transfer Company for 31 years, until his retirement in 1974.
Leo is survived by five daughters and two sons: Sue (Bob) Roebke, Kaukauna; Karen (George) Korth, Menasha, Dan Hett (special friend Cindy), Neenah; Carl Hett and his family, Town of Menasha; Sally (Tony) Steffen, Pulaski; Debbie (Dave) Wagner, Greenville; Becky (Larry) Auxier, Menasha; eighteen grandchildren: Brian, Carrie, Jason (Ayako), Todd (Brenda), Tim (Mary), Terry (Debbie), Tricia, Michele (Rick), Lisa (Duane), Sherie (Matt), Tom (Janet), Erik (Jennifer), Kristen (Ben), Lindsey, Jesse (fiancée Julie), Robin (Nick), Luke, and Brooke; eighteen great-grandchildren: Kayla, Leah, Amanda, Tyler, Chad, Ashley, Nicholas, Kyle, Duane, Ashley, Benn, Melissa, Kathryn, Lauren, Abigail, Anthony, soon to be born baby G, and very special great-granddaughter, Yuria; two sisters: Dorothy Pommerening, Menasha, and Annabelle Dennis, FL; a sister-in-law, Peggy DeCoster, Little Chute, and many other relatives and friends.
He is further preceded in death by one grandson; Shawn Michael; a granddaughter; Brenda; and three sisters: Viola, Josephine and Marcella. In addition, Rita’s family further precedes Leo in death.
A Funeral Mass for Leo will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 6:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, Menasha. Fr. Paul Radetski will officiate. Friends and family may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until the time of service. Leo will be laid to rest next to his wife at St. Mary Cemetery, Town of Menasha.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Leo’s name.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vallhaven Care Center for all their wonderful care and support, and Dick Weck, his dear neighbor and friend.
