ST. MEINRAD ? Aloysius John ?Butch? Ubelhor, 81, of St. Meinrad passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at his home.

He was born June 10, 1930, in Uniontown to Joseph and Clara (Hartwick) Ubelhor.
Butch married Mary Agnes ?Aggie? Schum May14, 1955, at Mary Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill. She preceded him in death July 31, 2000.
Butch served as a sergeant in the Army during the Korean War in Company F, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Ribbon with two bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal and a combat infantry badge.
He was a retired mason and worked at Alcoa for 21 years. Butch was also a past commander and member of St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366 and the Jasper Disabled American Veterans. He was member of the Ferdinand Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Tree Farm System and RC&D Forestry Committee.
Butch was a recipient of the Tom Wallace Forestry Award, district and state Charles Deam Forestry Stewardship awards and was also a recipient of the state Tree Farmer of the Year award.
He was a member of the St. Meinrad Area Revitalization team, past board member of the St. Meinrad Development Corp., St. Meinrad Community Center and utility board and the St. Meinrad Recreation Field board.
He is survived by two sons, Donald (Jane) Ubelhor of Birdseye and Marvin Ubelhor of St. Meinrad; two daughters, Linda Gatwood (Donald) of Birdseye and Carol Troesch (Marvin) of St. Meinrad; eight grandchildren, Erin (Waylon) Sisley, Jared Ubelhor, Sarah Gatwood, Issac (Megan) Gatwood, Noah Gatwood, Rachel Gatwood, Emily Troesch and Logan Troesch; one great-grandchild, Madison Sisley and two sisters, Marietta Bolin-Unger of Tell City and Marie Mullis (Don) of Rockport.
Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 10, at St. Meinrad Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites were conducted by St. Meinrad Legion Post 366.
Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand was in charge of arrangements.
